When I was young I wanted to teach children about health, but I disliked chemistry so I decided to try nutrition. It ended up a perfect fit for me because not only was there little chemistry but everything I learned along the way I knew I can implement into my own life.
I was attracted to Mountain Park because of all the activities that the organization puts on and participates in. From the kickball tournament and the annual race in Tempe, I admired the community involvement. When I started working here, the camaraderie among my co-workers blew me away. It’s so great being able to work with different disciplines all in one setting. Since working here I have been able to experience the diversity. People are so different here, they come from so many places. Where I’m from, it’s not the norm to see diversity. I personally feel that I fit into the diversity because there aren’t many male dietitians around.
Identifying what my patients need is important to me. We all know what we should be doing, and I try to give my patients small goals that they can work on to reach those big ones. I like it when patients make their own goals that are realistic. I’ve noticed when you empower people they are more likely to identify their weakness and move forward toward success.
Outside of work, I am going to school for my master’s. I have been married to my best friend who is insanely supportive of me. Together we have a son named August. With school and work we don’t have a lot of time for vacations or relaxation and days are a blur. When we do need to get away, we go to Disneyland. We have annual passes!
